ST. PETER, Minn. — Gustavus has been the team to beat in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for as long as Saint Mary's University women's tennis coach Jeff Halberg can remember.

And the Gusties gave SMU a first-hand look at just what it takes to be the premier team in the MIAC, as Gustavus handed the Cardinals a 9-0 conference setback Saturday afternoon.

“Gustavus is such a good team,” said Halberg, whose Cardinals were unable to win a set against the high-powered Gusties. “It really didn't feel like a 9-0 match  — we struggled a bit in doubles, but we played pretty well in singles.

“Give Gustavus credit, they are so deep and so talented — they're tough to beat.”
