ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team ventured south to Florida for its spring break — and rather than fun in the sun, had their first match rained out.
Fortunately for coach
Jeff Halberg and the Cardinals, they were beating Edgewood 6-1 when rain forced the match to be halted, giving SMU the nonconference victory.
“It was a nice way to start the (break),” Halberg said. “We played well and got out to the 6-1 lead, so when the rain came, we had enough points for the win.”
After picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the Cardinals got singles wins from
Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.),
Rebecca Snyder (Eden Prairie, Minn.),
Andrea Allis (Wells, Minn.) and
Emily DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn.) — all in straight sets — in icing the rain-shortened victory.
The Cardinals (6-4) are back in action on Monday, when they take on the University of Sioux Falls in the second of three matches in Orlando, Fla.
