Match Summary
WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary's University women's tennis coach
Jeff Halberg had a perfect explanation for Saturday's 9-0 nonconference loss to Winona State — the Cardinals just ran out of gas.
“We had such an emotionally and physically draining match against Concordia early in the day, we just didn't have anything left in the tank for Winona State,” said Halberg referring to Saturday's 6-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Concordia. “Give Winona State credit, they are a very tough team and they were the better team today.”
The Warriors raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, the completed the sweep with straight-set wins in all six singles matches.
The Cardinals (6-8 overall), who had their two-match winning streak snapped with the loss to Winona State, are back in action on Friday, hosting UW-La Crosse in a 6 p.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
