WINONA, Minn. — If the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team was feeling any ill effects from Friday's nonconference loss against UW-La Crosse, they certainly didn't show it on Saturday, as the Cardinals cruised to a 7-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Hamline at the Winona Tennis Center.
“The ladies played a very solid match,” said SMU coach
Jeff Halberg. “They worked hard and earned a deserved victory.
Bailey Edwards and
Deanne Webber were merciless, and
Abby Voigt has been on an excellent run over the past few weeks.
“A victory in the MIAC is always pleasing.”
Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) continued her winning ways on Saturday, as the Cardinal junior equaled the school record for single season wins, notching her 16th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kelsey Eatherton at No. 1 singles.
Deanne Webber (Reedsburg, Wis.) and
Rachel Luetmer (Loretto, Minn.) chipped in straight-set singles wins, while
Abby Voigt (Burnsville, Minn.) outlasted HU's Kristen Kiemele 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 3.
SMU also swept the three doubles matches, as Bailey and
Killian Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.),
Emily DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn.)-
Grace Zachman (Elk River, Minn.), and Voigt-
Andrea Allis (Wells, Minn.) were victorious for the Cardinals.
SMU (3-5 MIAC, 7-9 overall) is back in action on Saturday, as the Cardinals travel to St. Paul, Minn., for a noon conference match against Macalester.
