ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team had no answer to St. Catherine's one-two punch of Sarah Anderson and Leisl Wolf Saturday afternoon, as the Wildcat duo hooked up for a pair of goals as SCU handed the Cardinals a 2-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback.
Anderson didn't waste any time getting the Wildcats on the board, opening the scoring in the game's sixth minute, heading a Wolf corner kick past SMU goalkeeper
Miranda Halling (Rochester, Minn.).
The two were at it again 19 minutes into the second half, as Anderson scored her second of the game — again off a Wolf assist — to push the Wildcat lead to 2-0.
Halling, making her 14th straight start in goal for the Cardinals, finished with eight saves, giving the sophomore a conference-leading 115 saves on the season. SCU goalkeeper Danielle Mendez, meanwhile, stopped all four SMU shots in recording the shutout.
Caroline Blackwood (Norwalk, Ohio) accounted for two of the Cardinals' four shots on goal, while
Rachel Tackmann (Lake City, Minn.) and
Bethany Schmidt )Saprta, Wis.) accounted for the other two.
The Cardinals are now off until next Saturday, when they host Saint Benedict in a 1 p.m. conference game at Ochrymowycz Field.
