WINONA, Minn. — A week ago, the Saint Mary's University men's tennis team proved to be rather ungracious hosts to visiting Edgewood and Martin Luther, as the Cardinals handed the Eagles an 8-1 nonconference setback, then followed that up with a 9-0 drubbing of the Knights later in the day.

Saturday afternoon, it was the SMU women's team's turn to play host to Edgewood and Martin Luther — and the Cardinals were equally as ungracious, rolling to a pair of 8-1 nonconference victories at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Cardinals opened the day by sweeping the three doubles matches and picking up wins in five of the six singles matches. Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) was the only Cardinal not to win her singles match in straight sets, as the senior outlasted Shae Beckwith 3-6, 6-3, 10-5. SMU dropped just three games in the other four singles matches, while all three doubles teams collected convincing 8-0 wins.

And it was more of the same against Martin Luther, as SMU again swept the three doubles matches ¬— 8-1, 8-2 and 8-2 — while surrendering just four games in winning at Nos. 1-5 singles.

The Cardinals (3-2 overall) are right back in action on Sunday, hosting St. Scholastica in an 11 a.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
