WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team is back in action on Sunday, as the Cardinals host St. Scholastica in a 9 a.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.

The Cardinals picked up a pair of nonconference wins last Sunday, as SMU dropped Edgewood 8-1 and rolled to a 9-0 win over Martin Luther at the Winona Tennis Center. … St. Scholastica, meanwhile, entered its three-matches-in-three days weekend having gone 1-1 in its first two matches — beating Concordia 7-2 and falling to Saint John's 6-3.

The Cardinals picked up victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles — with Michael Lunka (Eagan, Minn.) and Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.) teaming for an 8-4 win at No. 1, while Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Andrew Rangitsch (Oakdale, Minn.) posted an 8-6 win at No. 2. Lunka and Puff were also winners at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, while Gavin Smith (White Bear Lake, Minn.) picked up his first collegiate win at No. 6, 6-3, 6-0..

The Cardinals continue their season-opening nonconference run next Friday and Saturday, as SMU travels to Jackson, Wis., for a 7 p.m. match against Concordia (Wis.), before squaring off against Ripon in a 3 p.m. match the following day in Ripon, Wis. … St. Scholastica, meanwhile, are off until March 2-3. The Saints face Concordia (Wis.) in a 9 p.m. match in Mequon, Wis. on March 2, then face Edgewood in a 5:30 p.m. match in Madison, Wis., on March 3.
