ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team kicks off its four-match spring trip on Monday, March 5, squaring off against King's College.

The Cardinals' March 5 match against King's College is their first road game of the season. SMU played its first seven matches at the Winona Tennis Center. … McKennah Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had a hand in both of SMU's wins in the Cardinals' 7-2 MIAC loss to nationally ranked Gustavus on Feb. 26. Edwards beat regionally ranked Laurel Krebsbach 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, then teamed with sister Bailey Edwards for a 9-8 (4) doubles win. … McKennah Edwards, who reached the singles title match at the USTA-ITA Midwest Regional Tournament last fall, enters SMU's spring trip riding a four-match singles winning streak and is 5-2 in the Cardinals' first seven matches. … Lindsey Reinisch (Hastings, Minn.) is second to McKennah Edwards in singles wins with four, while Bailey Edwards and Deanne Webber (Reedsburg, Wis.) each have three. … With her three singles wins this season, Edwards pushed her school-record career singles wins total to 47. … Bailey Edwards also owns the school's career doubles wins total with 45. The Thunder, coming off an 8-1 2011 fall season, picked up right where they left off in 2012, cruising to three straight wins. … Six of Wheaton's 11 wins (including last fall) have been by 9-0 scores. … Wheaton, which placed four players on the 2011 CCIW All-Conference Team, opens 2012 boasting the three-time CCIW Player of the Year in Elizabeth Worsowicz. … A four-time First-Team All-CCIW selection, Worowicz won the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles titles at the CCIW Championship in October. … Sarah Ray (First Team), Kirsten Boyer (Second Team) and Lauren Schlabach (Second Team) also earned all-conference honors. … Wheaton head coach Jane Nelson picked up CCIW Coach of the Year honors. … The Thunder won five singles titles and one doubles crown to win the 2011 CCIW Women's Tennis Championship. Wheaton has now won a league-best 17 CCIW women's tennis titles, including the past seven in a row.
