WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team had the upper hand at the top of the order in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Saint Benedict.

But it was the Blazers' depth that proved to be too much, as CSB — despite the efforts of Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and sister McKennah Edwards — handed the Cardinals a 6-3 setback Saturday at the Winona Tennis Center.

“There was some great tennis played today,” said SMU coach Jeff Halberg. “Saint Benedict was just too deep for us.

“Bailey and McKennah played lights out tennis, we just weren't able to match that Blazer depth.”

The Edwards sisters collected an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, with Bailey added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while McKennah was a 6-1, 6-4 victor at No. 2.

That, however, would be where the Blazers took over, as CSB won the other two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-3, while picking up straight-set singles wins at Nos. 3-4-5-6.

The Cardinals (2-4 MIAC, 8-7 overall) are back in action on Sunday, hosting St. Thomas in an 11 a.m. conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
