ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team closed out its spring trip in impressive fashion Wednesday, as the Cardinals rolled to a 6-2 nonconference win over Morningside College.
“The conditions were tough today — very breezy — but the guys did a good job of dealing with it,” said SMU coach
Jeff Halberg, whose team has now won three straight matches. “It was a great way for the guys to close out their spring trip.”
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the three doubles matches, and followed that up with wins at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles.
Collin Kaczorowski (Suamico, Wis.) and
Warren Lawrenz (Rochester, Minn.) won their singles matches in straight sets, while
Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.) added a three-set, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 win at No. 2.
The Cardinals, who improved to 8-3 with the win, are now off until March 15, when they return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a home match against Hamline.
