ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team kicks off its week-long spring trip to Orlando, Fla., with an 8:30 a.m. match against Ursinus on Monday. The Cardinals will also face King's, Berry and Morningside this week.

The Cardinals head into spring break on the heels of back-to-back nonconference wins on Feb. 23 at the Winona Tennis Center. SMU picked up an 8-1 win over Northwestern early in the day, then followed that up with a 9-0 victory over Loras.

March 5, 2012: The Cardinals, fresh off a 7-2 win over Marywood earlier in the day, won two of the three doubles matches and collected three straight set singles wins in running their winning streak to four straight with a hard-fought, 5-4 victory over King's in Orlando, Fla.

SMU vs. Ursinus — Their Last Meeting:
March 6, 2012: Michael Lunka (Eagan, Minn.) and Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.) kept their season-long winning streak in tact — winning for the ninth straight time. Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.), meanwhile, pushed his singles win streak to eight in a row with a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles. The trio's efforts, however, were not enough, as the Cardinals' four-match winning streak came to an end with a 7-2 nonconference loss to Ursinus College in Orlando, Fla.

SMU's match-ups with Berry and Morningside will be the first in program history.

The spring trip to Orlando, Fla., will be the first action of the spring for the Bears, who picked up a pair of wins over York and Lebanon Valley — while also competing in the Centennial Conference Invitational and the ITA Southeast Regional Championships — during the fall portion of their schedule. Ursinus beat York 7-1, then blanked Lebanon Valley 9-0. … Ursinus tied a school record with 12 wins a year ago, closing out 2012 with a 12-10 overall record. … The Bears return their entire lineup from last year's 12-10 team. …  Dylan Marsh — who finished 7-6 in singles play last season — had a perfect fall for the Bears, going 6-0, including wins at No. 3 singles against both York and Lebanon Valley. … Tyler Arsenault heads into Ursinus' spring trip carrying a 5-1 singles record. … Evan Stutchin broke a 22-year drought by becoming the first Ursinus player to win a match in the main draw of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship since 1990.  Stutchin defeated Roanoke's Matt Kessler 6-1, 6-2, before falling to the No. 6 seed Kevin Caulfield of Haverford. … Ursinus did not lose a singles match in its two duals against York and Lebanon Valley last fall, going 11-0. … Tyler Arsenault and Alex Elbogen own a team-best 3-1 doubles record.

The Monarchs topped both Moravian and Alvernia, while falling to Susquehanna. … King's wins over Moravian and Alvernia were both by 6-3 decisions, while Susquehanna handed the Monarchs a 5-4 setback. … Chris DiMino heads to Orlando, Fla., a perfect 3-0 in singles play, while Anders Larson and Andrew Penzitta have each recorded two singles wins. … King's doubles team of Tony Bevevino and Jake Rohring own two of the Monarch's six doubles wins, both at No. 1. … King's used seven doubles combinations in its three matches during the fall.

The Vikings are eligible for SAA championships this year, and NCAA championships beginning in 2013-14. … In the Vikings' season-opening 9-0 win over Covenant, they lost just two games in doubles, and only five in the six singles matches. … Austin Miller (No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles) and Jake Pullen (No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles) did not lose a game against Covenant. … Ben Ortman played for the Berry men's soccer team, which won the 2012 SAA Championship. He played in 18 of 19 games and had three goals for the Vikings. … Logan Yerbey went 8-6 with Jonathan Surls at No. 1 doubles last year, which was the only winning record for the 5-10 BC team. … Ortman is the lone player remaining from the 2011 team.
