WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team returns to the court on Saturday, as the Cardinals host St. Olaf in a 3 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.

April 21, 2012: The Cardinals, regionally ranked for the first time in Jeff Halberg's tenure as head coach, not to mention boasting the region's eighth-ranked doubles team — again a first under Halberg — picked up their first win over St. Olaf since Halberg took over 14 years ago. SMU, fueled by three-set singles wins by McKennah Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Deanne Webber (Reedsburg, Wis.), held off the Oles 5-4 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center in Owatonna, Minn.

The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, traveling to St. Peter, Minn., for an 11 a.m. conference match against Gustavus, before heading across town for a 3 p.m. nonconference showdown with Bethany Lutheran. … St. Olaf kicks off the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, as the Oles host cross-town rival Carleton in a 4 p.m. MIAC match.
