GameDay Preview
WINONA, Minn. — This time around, there would be no need for any late-match heroics.
After getting a three-set victory from
Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.) to beat Hamline 5-4 Saturday afternoon, the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team made things look a little "easier" on Sunday, as SMU cruised to a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Concordia at the Winona Tennis Center.
"We ended the weekend with a great team effort," said SMU coach
Jeff Halberg. "We started well and finished with confidence."
The Cardinals dropped just six games in sweeping through the three doubles matches, before adding straight-set wins in five of the six singles matches.
Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) was the only Cardinal stretched to the limit, as the freshman rallied from one set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 10-2 at No. 4 singles.
SMU (2-1 MIAC, 5-2 overall) are back in action on Friday, as the Cardinals travel to St. Paul, Minn., for a 7 p.m. conference match against St. Catherine.
