WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team closed out the nonconference portion of its schedule with a victory Wednesday afternoon — but it sure wasn't easy.

The Cardinals rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the doubles portion of their match against UW-Stout, winning four of the six singles matches in straight sets en route to a 5-4 victory at the Winona Tennis Center.

"We started a little slow, but give credit to UW-Stout, they gave us a tough match," said SMU coach Jeff Halberg. "We fought our way to a solid win."

Lindsey Reinisch (Hastings, Minn.) and Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles in posting SMU's lone doubles win, while Reinisch, Vandenberg, Katie Krull (Rochester, Minn.) and Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.) chipped in straight-set singles victories to seal the win.

The Cardinals (9-8 overall) close out their regular season on Saturday, as SMU hosts Macalester in a noon Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
