Cardinals fall to unbeaten St. Thomas, 9-0

Match Summary

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Despite a gallant effort, the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team could not match the firepower of host St. Thomas, as the unbeaten Tommies dealt the Cardinals a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback Saturday evening at the U of M Baseline Tennis Center.

"The ladies played hard and gave it everything they had," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "St. Thomas was just to tough and too deep. They are a very good team—it's no surprise they are 9-0 right now."

St. Thomas picked up 8-1, 8-1, 8-2 wins in the three doubles matches, before completing the sweep with straight-set wins at all six singles matches.

The Cardinals (2-4 MIAC, 6-5 overall) are back on the road next Saturday, heading to St. Paul, Minn., for a 2 p.m. conference showdown with Macalester.
