Vandenberg claims All-MIAC singles honors

All-MIAC Women's Tennis Teams

WINONA, Minn. — Megan Vandenberg (De Pere, Wis.) has enjoyed a banner season as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team.

The Cardinal senior racked up a team-leading 14 dual-match singles wins this season—moving her into a tie for the top spot all-time in career singles victories with 47—while also helping the Cardinals to their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff appearance since 2010.

And to cap off her remarkable final year as a Cardinal, Vandenberg was named First-Team All-MIAC in singles when the conference office announced its post-season awards Thursday.

Vandenberg closed out her final season at Saint Mary's winning nine of her last 11 contests. After dropping two of her first three singles matches, Vandenberg rattled off 13 wins in her final 15 matches en route to her team-leading 14 singles victories.

Gustavus' Calleigh Carlson earned the MIAC's Chris Evert Award, while Carleton coach Luciano Battaglini—who guided the Knights to the regular-season title—was tabbed the conference's coach of the year.

As part of the conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the 10th annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's and men's tennis, which included Saint Mary's Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) and Alex Zuzek (Hastings, Minn.).
