  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals kicked off their fall-to-spring season last Tuesday, falling to St. Thomas 4-0. The Tommies — who made it to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2019 — scored all four of their goals against the Cardinals in the second half. … Saint Mary's four shots against UST last Tuesday came from four different players — Jordyn Matthews (Seattle, Wash.), Haddy Falkman (Waconia, Minn.), Nicole Thompson (Riverside, Calif.), and Mikayla McCart (Council Bluffs, Iowa). … Alexis Nguyen (West Covina, Calif.) stopped three Tommies shots in last Tuesday's 4-0 loss to UST. … Nguyen made her first collegiate start in goal for the Cardinals against Bethel on Oct. 12, 2019, finishing with four saves, and added a career-high five saves in her second career start against Carleton three days later. … The Cardinals are coming off a 10-7-1 season in 2019 — marking the first time since 2007 that Saint Mary's has won 10 games in a season. … Eight of Saint Mary's 10 wins in 2019 were via shutout — the lone exceptions, 2-1 wins over Edgewood and UW-River Falls. … Matthews closed out the 2019 season with a team-leading 15 goals — the most in a season since 1995, when Julie Giebe scored 17. … Matthews scored two or more goals in a game five times in 2019 — including her first collegiate hat trick against St. Olaf on Oct. 2, 2019. It was SMU's first three-goal game since Emily Loof netted three goals against Bethany Lutheran on 6, 2017. … Thompson closed out the 2019 campaign as the team's assist leader with four, while Matthews led the team in points with 33. … Saint Mary's closed out its 2019 nonconference slate with a perfect 7-0-0 record. The Cardinals are now 13-1-0 in nonconference play over the last two years — the lone blemish a 2-0 loss to nationally ranked Loras on Sept. 8, 2018.
  AUGSBURG AUGGIES SCOUTING REPORT
After scrimmages against Hamline and St. Thomas, the Auggies officially opened their season on Thursday, falling to Gustavus 1-0. The Gusties scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute. … Augsburg had two goalkeepers make their Auggie debuts against the Gusties. Aspen Brockhouse stopped four GAC shots in the game's opening 45 minutes, while Isabelle Shuster made two second-half saves. … Jen Masello finished with a team-leading four shots, including two on goal, against Gustavus Thursday. … The Auggies closed out the 2019 season with a 15-4-2 record — falling to St. Thomas in penalty kicks in the MIAC Tournament title game, before ending the year with a 4-1 loss to the University of Chicago in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. … Augsburg's 15 wins in 2019 are the second-most in school history, behind its 18-5 overall record in 2016. It was also the eighth straight season in which Augsburg posted 10 or more wins.
