• NEAR-PERFECT: The Cardinals dropped just 11 games in its nonconference match against Bethany Lutheran last Saturday, posting 8-0 and 8-4 wins in doubles (plus a forfeit victory at No. 3), and adding a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), while dropping just seven games in the other four singles contests.
• WINNING BIG: Three of SMU’s five wins have been 9-0 sweeps, while the other two victories have been by 8-1 counts.
• GOING THE DISTANCE: Four of the six singles matches in SMU’s 8-1 loss to Saint Benedict were stretched to a third set, including a 1-6, 6-1, 10-2 win by Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.,) at No. 1. The other two singles matches vs. the Blazers included a first-set tiebreaker.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) heads into spring break leading the Cardinals with five dual-match singles wins, followed by Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.), Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.), and Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) with four apiece. … Renwick is riding a team-high three-match singles winning streak, while Peterson has won her last two contests.
• RACKING UP THE WINS: Becker closed out the 2021 season winning four of her last five matches to end the year with a team-high 11 singles wins, and now owns a 25-7 career singles record.
• SINGLED OUT: The Cardinals collected nine singles victories at last fall’s ITA Regional/Midwest Open, led by Henderson, Renwick, and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) with two each.
• COLLEGIATE FIRSTS: Buerman and Renwick picked up their first collegiate singles wins for the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team at the 2021 ITA Regional/Midwest Open on Sept. 24-25. Buerman outlasted Northwestern’s Taylar Smith 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-6 and Renwick followed suit with a marathon, 6-0, 3-6, 10-4 victory over Caroline Hutchinson of Wartburg. … The Cardinals had four athletes record their first collegiate singles wins in 2021 — Henderson, Peterson, Sarrianna Hoffer (Wausau, Wis.), and Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.).
• DOUBLING UP: The doubles team of Morgan/Peterson leads the Cardinals with five doubles wins. The duo are a near-perfect 5-1 this season, with all six matches coming at No. 1 doubles. … Henderson/Dosser are second on the team in dual-match doubles wins with four. … Frye and Morgan teamed up to go 3-1 in doubles play at last fall’s ITA Regional/Midwest Open.
• HOME SWEET HOME: The Cardinals have played all seven of their matches this season on their home court. SMU has picked up nine of its last 10 wins at the Winona Tennis Center.
• BRING IN THE BROOMS: Saint Mary’s posted three straight 8-0 doubles wins in their 9-0 victory over Martin Luther on Jan. 29.
• UNBEATABLE: The Cardinals remained unbeaten against Bethany Lutheran with last Saturday’s victory. All nine Cardinal wins against the Vikings have been 9-0 sweeps.
• DOMINANCE: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther on Jan. 29, the Cardinals ran their winning streak over the Knights to 16. SMU is 17-1 overall against MLC — and have won the last eight meetings between the two teams by 9-0 counts.
• TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: With their win over Bethany Lutheran last Saturday, the Cardinals improved to 71-20 against nonconference opponents since 2012.
