• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their regular season-ending conference matchup against St. Scholastica sitting at 11-7 overall, while owning a 4-5 conference mark through nine league matches.
• LAST TIME OUT: Saint Mary’s has been off since April 9-10, when the Cardinals split a pair of 9-0 conference decisions. Saint Mary’s cruised to a 9-0 win over Hamline on April 9, before falling to regionally ranked Carleton by the same score the following afternoon.
• STREAKY: With their outcomes against Hamline and Carleton on April 9-10, the Cardinals have now played three consecutive matches decided by 9-0 decisions. SMU also dropped a 9-0 contest to St. Catherine on April 2. … SMU’s loss to St. Catherine on April 2 snapped its season-high three-match winning streak. Saint Mary’s also owns two, two-match winning streaks. And on the flip side, Saint Mary’s has not lost back-to-back matches all season.
• WINNING BIG: Five of SMU’s 11 wins have been 9-0 sweeps, while three victories have been by 8-1 counts. SMU’s 6-3 win over Concordia on March 20, and last weekend’s 5-4 wins over Macalester and Bethel rounds out the Cardinals’ 10 victories.
• LUCKY NO. 15: The Cardinals’ 9-0 win over Hamline on April 9 extended their winning streak over the Pipers to 15 straight matches. SMU has not lost to Hamline since a 5-4 setback on Feb. 11, 2006. Saint Mary’s is 21-1 in its last 22 matches against the Pipers and are 23-7 all-time against Hamline.
• COMING FROM BEHIND: It was a weekend of come-from-behind victories for the Cardinals on April 2-3, as Saint Mary’s rallied from 4-2 deficits in beating both Macalester and Bethel by identical 5-4 decisions. Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.), and Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) posted the decisive singles wins in both victories for the Cardinals.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Becker heads into this weekend’s match against St. Scholastica leading the Cardinals with 13 dual-match singles wins. Becker, who had her five-match singles winning streak snapped against St. Catherine on April 2, has won 11 of her last 14 matches. … Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) is second to Becker with 10 singles wins, two more than Henderson and three in front of Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.). … Renwick had her season-high six-match singles winning streak snapped against Carleton, while Henderson had her season- and career-high five-match singles winning streak snapped against St. Catherine on April 2.
• SINGLED OUT: The Cardinals collected nine singles victories at last fall’s ITA Regional/Midwest Open, led by Renwick, Henderson, and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) with two each.
• COLLEGIATE FIRSTS: Buerman and Renwick picked up their first collegiate singles wins at the 2021 ITA Regional/Midwest Open on Sept. 24-25. Buerman outlasted Northwestern’s Taylar Smith 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-6 and Renwick followed suit with a marathon, 6-0, 3-6, 10-4 victory over Caroline Hutchinson of Wartburg.
• GOING THE DISTANCE: Four of the six singles matches in SMU’s 8-1 loss to Saint Benedict on Feb. 26 were stretched to a third set, including a 1-6, 6-1, 10-2 win by Peterson at No. 1. The other two singles matches vs. the Blazers included a first-set tiebreaker.
• DOUBLING UP: The doubles team of Henderson/Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) leads the team with seven wins, one more than Peterson/Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.). … Dosser/Henderson are 3-0 at No. 2 and 4-3 at No. 3, while Peterson/Morgan are 6-5 — all at No. 1 doubles. … Individually, Dosser and Henderson have each had a hand in a team-high 10 doubles-wins, followed by Peterson with nine, and Morgan and Frye with seven each. … SMU has used two doubles combinations at No. 1 and five at No. 3, while having six different pairs team up at No. 2.
• HOME SWEET HOME: The Cardinals, who played their first seven matches on their home court, boast a 6-3 record at home, while going 5-4 away from the Winona Tennis Center. … SMU has picked up 10 of its last 14 wins at the Winona Tennis Center.
• BRING IN THE BROOMS: Saint Mary’s posted three straight 8-0 doubles wins in their 9-0 victory over Martin Luther on Jan. 29.
• NEAR-PERFECT: The Cardinals dropped just 11 games in their nonconference match against Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 26, posting 8-0 and 8-4 wins in doubles (plus a forfeit victory at No. 3), and adding a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), while dropping just seven games in the other four singles contests.
• UNBEATABLE: The Cardinals remained unbeaten against Bethany Lutheran all-time with their 9-0 win over the Vikings on Feb. 26. All nine Cardinal wins against the Vikings have been 9-0 sweeps.
• DOMINANCE: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther on Jan. 29, the Cardinals ran their winning streak over the Knights to 16. SMU is 17-1 overall against MLC — and have won the last eight meetings between the two teams by 9-0 counts.
• PROGRAM FIRSTS: The Cardinals’ spring trip matches against Calvin, Houghton, Piedmont and Mount Vernon Nazarene were all the first meetings in program history.
• TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: With their 2-2 showing in Orlando, Fla., the Cardinals improved to 73-22 against nonconference opponents since 2012.
