• DOMINATION: The Cardinals dropped just 11 games in their nonconference match against Bethany Lutheran a year ago, posting 8-0 and 8-4 wins in doubles (plus a forfeit victory at No. 3), and adding a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps by Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), while dropping just seven games in the other four singles contests. … With the win last season, the Cardinals remained unbeaten against Bethany Lutheran all-time, with all nine Cardinal wins 9-0 sweeps.
• DOMINATION, PART II: The Cardinals have never lost to Loras, improving to 4-0 in program history with last season’s 8-1 victory over the Duhawks. SMU owns one 9-0 sweep and a pair of 7-2 victories to go with last year’s 8-1 triumph vs. Loras.
• WINNING BIG: Seven of SMU’s last 13 wins have been 9-0 sweeps — including both victories this season — while three other victories over the last two seasons have been by 8-1 counts.
• IN THE FALL: Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.), Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), and Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) collected singles wins at the Gustavus Fall Invitational in late September, while Dosser/Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) and Henderson/Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) earned doubles victories.

• STICKING WITH WHAT WORKS: The Cardinals have used the same singles lineup in both of their matches this season — Becker at No. 1, Dosser at No. 2, Renwick at No. 3, Buerman at No. 4, Boomgaarden at No. 5, and Henderson at No. 6.

• NEW THIS YEAR: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Operating Committee has instituted a mandatory, no-ad scoring pilot for all of D-III tennis for the 2022-23 season. No-ad tennis matches are played as follows: If each player/team has won three points, the score is “Deuce” and a deciding point shall be played. The receiver(s) shall choose whether to receive the service from the right half or the left half of the court. In doubles, the players of the receiving team cannot change positions to receive this deciding point. The player/team who wins the deciding point wins the game.
