ORLANDO, Fla. — For the second straight match, the Saint Mary's University women's tennis team battled its opponent to a 6-3 decision.
And this time around, it was the Cardinals who came out on the winning side of that margin.
Saint Mary's, coming off a spring break-opening 6-3 loss to Calvin on Monday, got back on the winning track on Tuesday, cruising to a 6-3 win over its own against Adrian at the USTA National Campus.
"A great, great performance from the ladies," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Everyone stepped up their game a notch today. Adrian a very formidable foe, and it was a hard-earned victory."
Saint Mary's got winning performances from
Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) and
Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) at No. 2 doubles and from
Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.)/
Kara Hand (Lisle, Ill.) at No. 3 to grab a 2-1 lead heading into the singles portion of the nonconference match.
And in singles, Becker, Buerman,
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) and
Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.) all recorded straight-set victories to carry Saint Mary's to the win.
The Cardinals (4-4 overall) close out their spring break schedule on Thursday, squaring off against Albion in a 9 a.m. (EST) showdown at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
