ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team closed out its spring trip to the USTA National Campus in impressive fashion Thursday afternoon, as the Cardinals rolled to an 8-1 nonconference win over Albion.
"What a great way to end our spring trip," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "The ladies played an extremely solid match. We got off to a bit of a slow start, but really turned it on in singles."
All three doubles matches were decided by 8-3 outcomes, with Saint Mary's collecting wins by
Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.)/
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) at No. 1 and
Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.)/
Kara Hand (Lisle, Ill.) at No. 3.
And, as coach Halberg said, then the Cardinals turned it on.
The Cardinals dropped just seven games in sweeping through the six singles matches. Buerman and
Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.) led the charge with 6-0, 6-0 wins, while Henderson won 6-1, 6-0. Dosser (6-1, 6-1),
Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn. / 6-2, 6-0), and
Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn. / 6-3, 6-0) also dominated their singles contests.
Saint Mary's (5-4 overall) returns to action on March 11, when the Cardinals return home to the Winona Tennis Center for a 1:30 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against St. Olaf.
