NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team, in the midst of a lengthy road swing, travels to Carleton on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. conference showdown with the Knights.

The Cardinals got a game-tying, second-half goal from Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.), but Hamline answered less than a minute later, as the Pipers handed SMU a 2-1 MIAC setback in St. Paul, Minn., Saturday. … Carleton, meanwhile, picked up its third tie of the season on Saturday, battling Augsburg to a 1-1 double-overtime deadlock in Minneapolis, Minn.

October 12, 2011: SMU coach Neil Cassidy knew exactly what to expect from Carleton heading into their MIAC game at Ochrymowycz Field. After all, Cassidy spent the past five seasons as head coach Keren Gudeman's assistant. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Cassidy's insider information wasn't enough, as the Knights' goal late in the first half was enough to defeat the Cardinals 1-0.

Wednesday's game at Carleton is the third of four straight road games for the Cardinals, who do not return to Ochrymowycz Field until Oct. 20, when they host Saint Benedict in a 1 p.m. conference contest. … Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.) scored her second goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Hamline. … With the second-half tally, Schmidt moved into the team lead with five points, while sharing the top spot in goals (2) with Sloane Kuramoto (Rochester, Minn.). … Katie Holmes (Edina, Minn.) and Rachel Tackmann (Lake City, Minn.) have accounted for SMU's other two goals this season.
