ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team ran into a buzz-saw in their spring-trip finale Wednesday evening, as Wheaton handed the Cardinals a 9-0 setback.
Wheaton opened with a sweep of the three doubles matches, winning 8-1 at No. 1, while collecting 8-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
And as impressive as the Thunder were in doubles, they even more impressive in the singles matches, sweeping all six in straight sets.
McKennah Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 1, while
Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback at No. 2. That, however, was as close as the Cardinals would get, as Wheaton dropped just four games combined in winning at Nos. 3-6.
The Cardinals (6-5 overall), who went 2-2 in their four-match spring trip, return to action on March 16, hosting Bethel in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
