ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team kicks off its week-long spring trip to Orlando, Fla., with a 7:30 p.m. match against King's College on Monday. The Cardinals will also face Berry and Morningside this week.

SMU vs. King's — Their Last Meeting:
March 5, 2012: SMU showed King's College a little Midwestern hospitality, as the Cardinals swept the three doubles matches and never took their foot off the gas in picking up a 7-2 nonconference win over the Monarchs during the their spring trip in Orlando, Fla.

SMU vs. Ursinus College, Berry College, Morningside College — Their Last Meeting:
SMU's match-ups with Berry and Morningside will be the first in program history.

Deanne Webber (Reedsburg, Wis.) picked up her second straight singles win last Thursday, posting a straight-set win at No. 3 singles vs. Bethel. … Katie Krull (Rochester, Minn.) accounted for the Cardinals' other win vs. BU, winning 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. … Krull's win was the first of her collegiate career. … Krull is the fourth Cardinal to notch her first collegiate win this season — Kirsten Hoffmann (Apple Valley, Minn.), Lexi Felten (Waukesha, Wis.) and Leanne Cleveland (La Crosse, Wis.) all recorded their first collegiate singles wins in SMU's season-opening win over Bemidji State. … Webber owns a team-best three singles wins for the Cardinals and is SMU's only repeat singles winner this season. The Cardinals' 10 singles wins this season have come from eight different players. … Hoffmann and Grace Zachman (Elk River, Minn.) have combined for a team-best two doubles wins this season. … Thanks to their win over Northwestern on Feb. 23, SMU pushed its nonconference unbeaten streak to four straight, dating back to a 5-4 loss to Michigan Tech on April 14, 2012. … With their 7-2 win over Bemidji State on Feb. 2, the Cardinals have now won their season opener in two of the last three years — with both wins coming against Bemidji State, and both wins by 7-2 decisions. … The Cardinals finished 2012 with 11 wins, marking the second time in the last three years — and the seventh time in the last nine — that SMU has reached double figures in victories.

Scouting the King's College Monarchs:

King's, which is coming off a 7-14 season a year ago, will not open its spring season until its trip to Orlando, Fla., but the Monarchs did play a pair of matches during their fall season, dropping back-to-back 8-1 decisions to Moravian and Susquehanna. … Vanessa Wagner accounted for King's lone singles win in its losses to Moravian and Susquehanna, while the doubles team of Liz Demko and Kaitlyn Rossowski teamed for the other win at No. 2 doubles. … Emily Biffen and Sara Lynn both return for the Lady Monarchs after being named Second-Team All-Freedom Conference a year ago. Lynn and Biffen were major contributors to a King's team that reached the Freedom Conference Tournament semifinals, falling to eventual champion Wilkes. … Biffen posted a team-best 16-5 singles record last season. In doubles, Biffen played with five different partners, posting a 7-16 mark.  In her two seasons at King's she has a 19-6 singles mark. … Lynn played in the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles during her freshman campaign a year ago. Lynn went 10-10 in dual meets and also posted a 1-1 mark in the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships. In doubles, she played with two different partners and went a combined 7-15. 

Scouting the Berry College Vikings:

Berry is in its fourth and final year of NCAA DIII provisional membership. The Vikings are eligible for SAA championships this year, and NCAA beginning in 2013-14. … Berry opened the year with a 9-0 win over Covenant. … Emma O'Reilly was perfect on the day vs. CC. She won at No. 2 singles 6-0 and 6-0. She then teamed with Jenn Trinnell for a convincing 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. … Along with her prowess on the tennis court, Tinnell was also a standout defensive specialist for the 2012 Berry volleyball team that won the SAA regular season and tournament titles. … Last year's team finished 8-6, but was just 1-5 on its Orlando trip.

Scouting the Morningside College Mustangs:

Morningside's March 4 spring-trip opener against Martin Methodist will be just the second match of the spring for the Mustangs — who did play seven matches during their fall season, going 3-4. … Morningside sandwiched 8-1, 8-1 and 9-0 wins against Mount Marty, Buena Vista and Grand View between a pair of two-match losing streaks during its seven-match fall schedule. … In their only other spring match of 2013, Morningside fell to Mary 5-4. The loss was the third straight 5-4 setback for the Mustangs. … Jacy Jahn and Megan Solberg share the team lead in singles wins with five, one more than Katie Hanson, Mary Horton and Audri Swisher. … Morningside has used nine different doubles combinations, with Jahn and Solberg combining for a team-leading three doubles wins.
