Morningside too much for shorthanded Cardinals

Match Summary

ORLANDO, Fla. — Squaring off against Morningside (Iowa) at full strength would have been tough enough—doing so down two members made things virtually impossible for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team.

The Cardinals, shorthanded due to injury, could not match the Mustangs' depth, as Morningside handed Saint Mary's an 8-1 nonconference setback Wednesday at Oak Street Tennis Center.

"Morningside was just a bit too tough for us today," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "They were a tough team to place under normal circumstances, but to have to face them shorthanded was just a bit too much."

Haley Jorgensen (Fallon, Nev.) collected the Cardinals' lone victory, outlasting the Mustangs' Audri Swisher 3-6, 6-2, 10-3.

The Cardinals (5-4 overall) are now off until March 14, when they return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a noon showdown against Concordia at the Winona Tennis Center.
