• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their conference-opener against Gustavus having won both of its matches this season, beating Northwestern on Jan. 28 and Martin Luther the following afternoon.

• PITCHING SHUTOUTS: Both of the Cardinals’ wins this season have been 9-0 sweeps. Saint Mary’s did not lose more than four games in any set in sweeping Northwestern, while dropping just 10 total games in their 9-0 win over Martin Luther.

• PERFECTION: Saint Mary’s posted three straight 8-0 doubles wins in their 9-0 victory over Martin Luther on Jan. 29.

• LEADING THE CHARGE: Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.), Maggie Frye (Colorado Springs, Colo), Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.), and Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) are all 2-0 in singles in dual matches this season, while Frye, Peterson, Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.), and Ashley Renwick (Farmington Minn.) have recorded three singles wins overall.

• RACKING UP THE WINS: Becker closed out the 2021 season winning four of her last five matches to end the year with a team-high 11 singles wins, and now owns a 22-4 career singles record.

• SINGLED OUT: The Cardinals collected nine singles victories at last fall’s ITA Regional/Midwest Open, led by Henderson, Renwick, and Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) with two each.

• COLLEGIATE FIRSTS: Buerman and Renwick picked up their first collegiate singles wins for the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team at the 2021 ITA Regional/Midwest Open on Sept. 24-25. Buerman outlasted Northwestern’s Taylar Smith 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 10-6 and Renwick followed suit with a marathon, 6-0, 3-6, 10-4 victory over Caroline Hutchinson of Wartburg. … The Cardinals had four athletes record their first collegiate singles wins in 2021 — Henderson, Peterson, Sarrianna Hoffer (Wausau, Wis.), and Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.).

• DOUBLING UP: Morgan/Peterson, Frye/Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.), and Henderson/Dosser are all 2-0 as doubles teams. … Frye and Morgan teamed up to go 3-1 in doubles play at last fall’s ITA Regional/Midwest Open.

• HOME SWEET HOME: The Cardinals are 2-0 on their home courts this season, and have now picked up eight of their last nine wins at the Winona Tennis Center.

• DOMINANCE: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther on Jan. 29, the Cardinals ran their winning streak over the Knights to 16. SMU is 17-1 overall against MLC — and have won the last eight meetings between the two teams by 9-0 counts.

• TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: With their wins over Northwestern and Martin Luther on Jan. 28-29, the Cardinals improved to 68-20 against nonconference opponents since 2012.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Gusties head into Sunday’s conference-opener against Saint Mary’s sitting at 1-1 on the season.

• LAST TIME OUT: Gustavus kicked off its season with a pair of nonconference matches last Saturday, opening with a convincing 9-0 victory over Northwestern (Iowa), an NAIA school, before falling to NCAA Division I North Dakota 7-0 in its second match of the day.

• SINGLED OUT: Lilli Elofson, Mary Enright, Rachel Fenciullo, Brooke Haddroff, Megan Karrow, and Hayley Trebil all picked up singles wins in GAC’s 9-0, season-opening win over Northwestern (IA) last Saturday. … Karrow recorded three wins in tournament play last fall and boasts a 4-0 overall singles mark, while Elofson, Trebil, Haddoff, Fenciullo, Halie Rosenthreter,  Emily Carlson, and Sarah Borchard all have three overall singles wins.

• DOUBLING UP: The doubles teams of Josie Carlson/Karrow, Elofson/Haddroff, and Trebil/Emily Norman recorded GAC’s three wins against Northwestern (IA) last Saturday. … Elofson/Haddroff own three tournament doubles wins to go with their win over Northwestern (IA) to improve to 4-0 overall as a doubles pair.

• A YEAR AGO: Gustavus finished the 2021 season with a 16-2 overall record, including an 8-1 mark and second-place finish in conference play. GAC — which fell to UST 5-4 in the teams’ regular-seaosn meeting — dropped a 5-0 decision to St. Thomas in the MIAC Tournament championship match.
