• 2023 MIAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: Gearin and Gatz picked up post-season honors to lead the way for the Cardinals and the indoor season-ending MIAC Championships. Gearin landed All-MIAC honors by placing third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.30 meters, while Gatz also posted a top-5 finish, earning honorable-mention All-MIAC accolades by clearing 4.37 meters to place fourth. … Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) delivered a seventh-place throw of 11.77 meters in the women’s shot put, while teammates Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Sydney Jackman (Litchfield, Minn.) finished close behind with eighth- and ninth-place marks of 11.31m and 11.07m, respectively. … The Cardinal men also got eighth-place performances from Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill. / TJ, 12.74m), Grant Schneider (Moorhead, Minn. / 1,000, 2:34.79), and Bulwa (200, 22.69), while Bulwa also added a ninth in the 400 (51.06) | Day 1 Recap * Day 2 Recap
• LAST ACTION: Saint Mary’s collected eight Top 10 performances — including a fifth-place effort by Bulwa in the men’s 200 and a sixth by Caeli McMahon (Holmen, Wis.) in the women’s 800 — and had 17 finishes in the Top 15 at last Friday’s MSU-Mankato Premier.
• MSU-MANKATO PREMIER: Bulwa stopped the clock in 22.42 to finish fifth in the 200, and was one of three Cardinal men to crack the Top 10, being joined by Grant Schneider, who finished sixth in the 1,000 (2:40.92), and Sean Smyth, who clocked a time of 4:38.58 to finish ninth in the mile. … McMahon led the way for the SMU women, breaking the tape in a sixth-place time of 2:31.67 in the 800, with Kubes and Samantha Munson (Maple Plain, Utah) chipping in eighth-place efforts in the weight throw (14.88 meters) and 60 (8.31), respectively | Recap
• MSU-MANKATO/: Saint Mary’s recorded 13 Top 10 performances at the MSU-Mankato Maverick Premier and UW-Platteville Invitationals on Feb. 9010 — including first-place efforts from Kendra Klobe (Oconomowoc, Wis.) in the 5,000 and the men’s 4x400 relay. … Several Cardinals kicked off the weekend, taking part in the predominantly-NCAA Division II MSU-Mankato Maverick Premier, with Brady Johnson leading the way, placing fifth in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 12.85 meters, while Bulwa raced to an eighth-place finish in the men’s 200 (22.42) and Jackman delivered a throw of 12.14 meters to place ninth in the women’s shot put. … Klobe won the three-person 5,000 meters, stopping the clock in 20:52.78 to lead the way for the Cardinal women, Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), Bulwa, Johnson, and Eddie Paton (Katy, Texas) took home top honors in the 4x400 relay, posting a winning time of 3:32.06 | Recap
• LUTHER INVITATIONAL: The SMU men’s and women’s teams combined for 26 Top 10 finishes — including a pair of event winners and 18 Top 5 showings — at last the Luther Invitational in Decorah, Iowa, on Feb. 3 …. Bulwa and Kubes led the way for the Cardinals, with Bulwa winning the men’s 200, stopping the clock in 22.72, while Kubes won the women’s weight throw with a mark of 15.94. Antonio Cisewski (Custer, Wis.), Casen Fritz (Minnesota City, Minn.), and Cade Kloss (Apple Valley, Minn.) all chipped in second-place efforts for the SMU men, while Kaylen Pray (Port Townsend, Wash.) posted a third in the 60 and Jackman was third in the shot put for the SMU women | Recap

OLAF INVITATIONAL: Saint Mary’s posted 12 Top 10 performances — including a first-place effort by the men’s 4x200 relay team, and second-place efforts by Johnson and Bulwa. … Johnson collected his second-place individual effort in the triple jump with a mark of 12.68 meters, while Bulwa stopped the clock in 7.02 to earn second in the 60. The duo then teamed with Paton and Adamson to bring home first-place honors in the 4x200, breaking the tape in 1:32.80. … On the women’s side, Jackman and Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) led the way for the SMU women, with Jackman placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.37 meters and Gearin adding a fifth in the pole vault, clearing 2.80 meters | Recap
• UW-LA CROSSE INVITE: Saint Mary’s collected 11 Top 10 performances — including three women throwers who placed in the Top 5 — and finished fifth in the both men’s and women’s team standings at the UW-La Crosse Invitational on Jan. 20. … Kubes picked up a pair of Top 5 efforts to lead the way for the SMU women, as the senior placed third in the weight throw (15.70 meters) and fifth in the shot put (11.76m), while Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finished right in front of Kubes in the shot put, placing fourth with a toss of 11.96m. … On the men’s side, Kloss led the way for the Cardinals, clocking a time of 1:29.18 to finish sixth in the 600 | Recap
• ST. THOMAS INVITE: The Cardinals collected 19 Top 10 finishes — including nine performances sitting in the Top 5 — at the indoor season-opening St. Thomas Invitational on Jan. 12. Bulwa led the charge for the Cardinals, winning the 200 with a time of 23.22.Kloss, Fritz, Brady Johnson, Sean Smyth (Pinehurst, N.C.), Grant Schneider (Moorhead, Minn.), Paton, Cisewski, and Evan Finney (West End, N.C.) also followed Bulwa’s lead by delivering Top 5 finishes.
