• AMONG THE NATION’S BEST: With her throw of 50.51 meters in the hammer at last weekend’s Saint Mary’s Invitational, Kubes is sitting 25th in the nation in the event. … Bulwa’s school record-setting time of 21.51 in the 200 at the Saint Mary’s Invitational last Saturday has him sitting 23rd in the country in the event.
• LAST ACTION: The Cardinals recorded 29 top five finishes — including six first-place efforts — at the Saint Mary’s Invitational at the SMU Track and Field Complex.
• SMU INVITATIONAL: Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah) and Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each posted a first- and second-place effort to lead the way for the SMU women. Munson won the 200 with a time of 26.34 and placed second in the 100, stopping the clock in 12.80, while Wallendal won the shot put with a mark of 12.0 meters and added a second in the hammer with a throw of 40.86 meters. … On the men’s side, Chris Bulwa had a hand in both first-place finishes, breezing to a first in the 200 with a school-record time of 21.51, and teaming with Ben Kritsberg (Rosemount, Min.), Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.), and Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.) to break the tape in 42.02 to win the 4x100 relay | Recap
• MISSISSIPPI RIVER RUMBLE: The Cardinals posted 14 Top 10 performances — including three each from Hanna Strom (Dodge Center, Minn.) and Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) — at last Saturday’s University of Dubuque Mississippi River Rumble. Strom delivered an eighth-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters, and ran a leg in both the third-place 4x400 relay and the sixth-place 4x100 relay. Bulwa matched Strom’s effort, notching a sixth in the 100 (10.87), and running legs on the fifth-place 4x400 and seventh-place 4x100 relays. … Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) delivered SMU’s top individual finish, placing fifth in the hammer (47.01 meters) | Recap
• WASH U CARNIVAL/INVITE: Kubes picked up a first-place finish, and Bulwa and Wallendal chipped in second-place efforts to lead the Cardinals at the WashU Carnival/Invitational last weekend in St. Louis, Mo. … Kubes won the hammer with a throw of 49.27 meters, while Wallendal delivered a second-place mark of 39.31 meters in the discus and Bulwa raced to a school-record time of 21.77 to place second in the 200 | Recap
• MIAC HONOR: Kubes collected her first-ever MIAC weekly honor, being named the conference’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the hammer throw at the WashU Invitational on March 30.
• 2024 MIAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Cardinal men placed 10th in the two-day MIAC Indoor Championships, while the SMU women finished 11th. … Seven individuals brought home nine conference indoor honors. • 2023 MIAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHPS: Bulwa picked up honorable-mention honors in three events, and Kubes delivered an All-MIAC performance in the hammer throw to lead the Cardinals at the season-ending MIAC Outdoor Championships in Arden Hills, Minn. Bulwa placed fifth in the 100 (11.01), 200 (22.11), and in the 4x400 relay (42.58), while Kubes uncorked an all-conference throw of 48.57 meters to place third in the hammer.
