• AMONG THE NATION’S BEST: Chris Bulwa’s (Glenview, Ill.) school record-setting time of 21.51 in the 200 at the Saint Mary’s Invitational on April 13 has him sitting tied for 37th in the country in the event. … With her school-record throw of 51.29 meters in the hammer at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational on April 27, Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) is sitting 30th in the nation in the event.
• LAST ACTION: The Cardinals put together 22 Top 10 performances — including a pair of first-place finishes — at the Macalester Rider/Bolstorff Invitational last Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
• RIDER/BOLSTORFF INVITE: Bulwa kicked off busy afternoon teaming with Ben Kritsberg (Rosemount, Minn.), Jinwoo Jung (Morton Grove, Ill.), and Oliver Adamson to win the first event of the day, the 4x100, with a first-place time of 42.54. Bulwa added a second first in the 100, stopping the clock in 10.82, while Adamson added a second in the 200, breaking the tap in 22.34. On the women’s side, Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah) posted a pair of stellar efforts — placing third in the 200 (26.40) and fourth in the 100 (12.98), while Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) notched a third in the shot put (12.77m) and eight in the discus (35.59m) — to go along with her fourth in the hammer (48.06m) | Recap
• PHIL ESTEN CHALLENGE: Participating in one of the largest meets they’ll compete in all season, the Cardinals put together 13 Top 15 performances at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge on April 20. Bulwa clocked a time of 21.68 to place second in the 200, while Eddie Paton (Katy, Texas) and Ron White (Holmen, Wis.) chipped in fifth-place finishes — Paton with a time of 51.71 in the 400 and White with a mark of 36.40 meters in the discus. On the women’s side, Schei uncorked a throw of 33.56 meters to place fifth in the javelin, while Kubes (hammer, 45.16m) and Caeli McMahon (Holmen, Wis. / 5,000, 20:01.06) added 10th-place performances | Recap
• SMU INVITATIONAL: The Cardinals recorded 29 top five finishes — including six first-place efforts — at the Saint Mary’s Invitational on April 20. Munson and Wallendal each posted a first- and second-place effort to lead the way for the SMU women. Munson won the 200 with a time of 26.34 and placed second in the 100, stopping the clock in 12.80, while Wallendal won the shot put with a mark of 12.0 meters and added a second in the hammer with a throw of 40.86 meters. … On the men’s side, Bulwa had a hand in both first-place finishes, breezing to a first in the 200 with a school-record time of 21.51, and teaming with Kritsberg, Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.), and Adamson to break the tape in 42.02 to win the 4x100 relay | Recap
• MISSISSIPPI RIVER RUMBLE: The Cardinals posted 14 Top 10 performances — including three each from Hanna Strom (Dodge Center, Minn.) and Bulwa — at the University of Dubuque Mississippi River Rumble on April 6. Strom delivered an eighth-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters, and ran a leg in both the third-place 4x400 relay and the sixth-place 4x100 relay. • MIAC HONOR: Kubes collected her first-ever MIAC weekly honor, being named the conference’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the hammer throw at the WashU Invitational on March 30.
• 2024 MIAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Cardinal men placed 10th in the two-day MIAC Indoor Championships, while the SMU women finished 11th. … Seven individuals brought home nine conference indoor honors. • 2023 MIAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHPS: Bulwa picked up honorable-mention honors in three events, and Kubes delivered an All-MIAC performance in the hammer throw to lead the Cardinals at the season-ending MIAC Outdoor Championships in Arden Hills, Minn. Bulwa placed fifth in the 100 (11.01), 200 (22.11), and in the 4x400 relay (42.58), while Kubes uncorked an all-conference throw of 48.57 meters to place third in the hammer.
